What should I do first if my pet dies at home?
If you are unsure whether your pet has died, contact a vet immediately. Once death is confirmed, ask your vet or chosen provider how to handle and keep the body pending collection, and what collection time is available. A hotline being open does not guarantee immediate pickup.
If the death was unexpected and you want it investigated, discuss this with your vet before authorising cremation. In Singapore, AVS says submissions to CAVS for a post-mortem must come through a referring vet.
If your pet is at a clinic, ask who will arrange collection, which provider will receive the body, what storage costs apply and who will give you the paperwork. It may help to have a trusted person take notes or make the calls with you.
Will my pet be alone, and will I receive ashes?
Ask the provider to describe its process rather than choosing by the label alone. Mandai Pets Sanctuary distinguishes these three services:

For any provider, ask how your pet is identified during collection, storage, cremation and return. If receiving ashes matters to you, get that part of the agreement in writing before collection.
What prices are published in Singapore and Malaysia?
These are selected provider examples checked on 1 October 2026, not national averages, endorsements or complete quotes. The Singapore starting prices cover different pet sizes; do not assume the lowest price applies to your dog.
Singapore: Mandai Pets Sanctuary
Its cremation page advertises communal service from S$50, partitioned cremation with ashes from S$90, and private cremation from S$190. Ask for the price for your dog's size and confirm GST, transport and extras in the written total.
It lists scheduled pickup from homes or clinics between 8am and midnight, despite being contactable around the clock. Confirm the available slot directly.
Malaysia: 88 PetPet, Shah Alam
The published package table gives these examples for pets under 10kg:

Pickup is charged by distance. The two individual packages list ash collection after three days. A witnessed farewell is not automatically the same as witnessing the cremation itself; ask which stages you can attend.
For this weight band, Precious costs RM200 more than Nature before pickup and any other charges. Compare the service differences with what you actually want. Ask for a fresh quote for heavier pets and confirm tax and all inclusions.
A checklist for the written quote
Give each provider the same information so you can compare like for like:
- Pet's species and weight, collection address and requested timing.
- One-pet or partitioned chamber, ashes return and identification process.
- Attendance, storage period and expected return or collection date.
- Transport, after-hours charges, tax, urn and any optional keepsakes.
- Total payable, payment terms and a receipt or cremation certificate.
You can decline optional ceremonies or keepsakes. Cost does not measure how much your pet mattered to you. Ask about any storage deadline before postponing an ashes or memorial decision.
Burial and paperwork
Singapore: AVS permits burial on your own private property or land, but not in public areas. Do not treat an HDB common area or shared garden as your own private land. AVS directs owners of dogs and cats to commercial animal crematoriums for cremation.
Malaysia: confirm the proposed burial location and requirements with your local council and landowner before proceeding. This guide does not establish nationwide permission for home burial or prescribe a burial depth.
For Singapore dogs and cats, cancel the licence in PALS under My Licences → Cancel licence. AVS says a death certificate or cremation invoice may be uploaded. Keep the provider's invoice and any veterinary records together.
